The Welfare Association

The Welfare Association is a UK registered charity established in 1993 to support the most vulnerable Palestinian communities with sustainable development programmes and emergency aid . The Welfare Association works with Palestinian communities in Gaza, the West Bank, and in refugee camps in Lebanon.

One of the Welfare’s main areas of action is education, including early childhood development in Gaza. The Welfare aims to provide the children of Gaza with some hope of a bright future by creating partnerships with local organisations in Gaza whose work focuses on early childhood development.

Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children

Atfaluna supports thousands of deaf children, adults and their families through deaf education, audiology, speech therapy, income generating programs for the deaf, vocational training, parents’, teachers’ and community training and awareness programs.

Kanafani kindergartens

Run by the Ghassan Kanafani Development Association, these kindergartens understand the importance of the development of children in their formative years. They aim to:

  • Provide Palestinian children with an environment that respects their rights
  • Establish kindergartens to respond to child cultural, social and psychological needs

Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP)

    The Israeli offensive on Gaza in early 2009 had long-lasting psychological effects on Palestinians living in the region. The GCMHP provides carefully designed psychosocial and recreational activities that would help alleviate affected children’s psychological distress and assist them to cope and recover from trauma.
